This Saturday, 12 October 2024, it's all about jumping high on Karlsruhe's Schlossplatz. At the second edition of ‘Karlsruhe jumps!’ - presented by INIT - some of the best pole vaulters will compete against each other. The athletics fans of Karlsruhe already know what they can look forward to. Back in 2021, the top female pole vaulters gathered on Karlsruhe's market square to deliver top performances. In 2021, Tina Šutej from Slovenia secured victory with a jump of 4.71 metres. ‘Karlsruhe jumps!’ is embedded in the Karlsruhe City Festival, which takes place on 12 and 13 October throughout the city centre.
This year, Yana Hladiychuk will be among those competing. The 31-year-old Ukrainian secured fourth place at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade and seventh place at the 2021 European Indoor Championships in Torun. Her greatest success came when she won the gold medal at the 2020 Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul. The three-time national indoor and outdoor champion currently has a personal best of 4.61 metres. The two Frenchwomen Albane Dordain and Alix Dehaynain are also likely to have a say in the day's victory. The 25-year-old Dordain secured silver at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China. Her personal best is 4.46 metres. Her compatriot Alix Dehaynain is one year older and has a personal best of 4.53 metres. The 16-year-old Greek athlete Anastasia Boumpoulidi will also be one to watch. She caused quite a stir at the U18 European Championships in Banská Bystrica (Slovakia) in July with her 4.20 metre leap, which earned her gold. The competition starts next Saturday at 15:00. The award ceremony will take place at around 17:30. The junior jumpers will start at 12.00 pm and will be able to present themselves on the big stage. Admission is free!
