World Indoor Tour Gold 2026 comes to an end: eleven winners secure coveted wild cards for Indoor World Championships

When the starting gun fires for this year's World Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland, in just over three weeks' time, the eleven athletes who won a wild card for the 2026 indoor athletics highlight by winning the World Indoor Tour Gold will also be at the start. Last Sunday, after stops in Boston and New York (both USA), Ostrava (Czechia), Madrid (Spain), Karlsruhe (Germany), Belgrade (Serbia) and Liévin (France), this year's World Indoor Tour Gold came to an end in Torun, Poland, in the very arena where the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze will take place from 20 to 22 March. Four athletes who were successful at the INIT INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe on 8 February will also be competing at the Indoor World Championships – three of the four athletes even as winners of the day.

Four tour winners also competing in Karlsruhe

Italy's Larissa Iapichino secured first place in the overall women's long jump ranking at this year's meeting with a distance of 6.84 metres and her victory at the meeting in Torun. Pole vaulter Sondre Guttormsen is also one of the Karlsruhe starters who ended up at the top of the podium. With victories in Karlsruhe and Torun and a second place in Liévin, the Norwegian left his competitors standing. Although Yasser Mohammed Triki competed in the men's triple jump in Karlsruhe outside of the tour discipline and secured victory, the Algerian also topped the rankings at the end of the tour after his victory in Liévin. While Ethiopian Birke Haylom only managed second place in the women's 1,500 metres at the INIT INDOOR MEETING with an excellent time of 4:00.88 minutes, her successes at the two other meetings in Ostrava and Madrid earned her the overall victory in the World Indoor Tour Gold.
