The men's 3,000 metres at the INIT INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe has it all: German elite meets international competition
When the INIT INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe, the fourth stop on the World Indoor Tour Gold, takes place on 7 February over a total of 15 arena laps, the 3,500 or so visitors to the sold-out Europahalle in Karlsruhe will be in for a real treat, as four top German athletes - Mohamed Abdilaahi, Karl Bebendorf, Maximilian Thorwirth and Florian Bremm - will be competing over this distance. However, they will be up against strong international competition, above all the Kenyan Jacob Krop and the Norwegian Narve Gilje Nordås.
The four German runners will be up against high-calibre international competition, including 23-year-old Kenyan Jacob Krop, who is already decorated with World Championship medals. Krop finished second in the 5,000 metres at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. A year later, he won the bronze medal over the same distance at the World Championships in Budapest. His best indoor performance over 3,000 metres is 7:31.35 minutes. He is joined by 26-year-old Narve Gilje Nordas, one of Norway's strong school of runners, who has all distances from 1,500 to 10,000 metres in his programme. His greatest success to date was winning the bronze medal in the 1,500 metres at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
